FAQ
Goat Hay Feeder
1. How much hay can this goat hay feeder hold?
This feeder is designed with a larger capacity than most standard feeders, allowing you to load more hay at once and reduce how often you need to refill.
2. Will this feeder help reduce hay waste?
Yes. The built-in catch tray captures dropped hay before it hits the ground, helping reduce waste by up to 40% and keeping hay cleaner and usable.
3. Is this feeder safe for goats?
Absolutely. The 3-inch spacing is designed to prevent goats from getting their heads stuck while also minimizing nose rubbing, making it a safer alternative to many traditional feeders.
4. What materials is the feeder made from?
This feeder is built from durable a combination of quality Southern Yellow Pine which is denser, stronger, and heavier wood often used for structural and decking, and red oak hardwood, chosen for its strength, longevity, and ability to withstand daily use.
5. How does this compare to store-bought feeders like Tractor Supply Company?
Most store-bought feeders are lighter, smaller, and often have poor spacing that can lead to waste or safety issues. This feeder is larger, heavier, and designed specifically to improve safety and reduce hay loss.
6. Can this feeder be used for sheep as well?
Yes. The design works well for both goats and sheep, providing safe access to hay while reducing waste for both types of animals.
7. Is the feeder weather-resistant?
Yes. We use pressure treaded lumber for anything that comes in contact with the ground, such as the stability boards at the base, and the four uprights. The rest of the lumber is Southern Yellow Pine which is protected when purchasing the hay feeder with the roof option.
8. Will the feeder tip over easily?
No. The feeder is built with a heavier structure and includes stability boards at the base to help prevent tipping, even with active goats. We recently went through a storm with 50–70 mph winds, and it held up just fine. We recommend securing it with T-posts or sandbags for added stability if you plan to move it around.
9. Do you offer delivery?

10. Do you offer DIY goat hay feeder plans?
Yes! You can purchase detailed step-by-step plans that include a materials list, measurements, and photos so you can build your own feeder with confidence.
